There are several GPS and survey units available at RMBL. This section should help you make a decision about which one you should use.
TRIMBLE GEOXT
You should use the Trimble GeoXT if the following applies:
1.) You want a simple to use, small handheld unit
2.) Sub-meter accuracy is sufficient
3.) Satellites are available (you are not working in dense trees or close to a mountain)
4.) You only have one person to operate the GPS unit
5.) You can wait for the data to be post-processed
TOPCON HIPER PRO
You should use the TopCon Hiper Pro if the following applies:
1.) You need millimeter accuracy (20mm). If you are working in an area smaller than 1
meter you should use this unit.
2.) You have time to spend on more training (several sessions of 2-3 hours each)
3.) Your site is within one of RMBL's localizations
4.) Satellites are available (you are not working in dense trees or close to a mountain)
5.) You want data as soon as possible (no post processing necessary)
TOPCON CONVENTIONAL TOTAL STATION
You should use the convention Total Station if the following applies:
1.) You need the best accuracy possible (5-10mm)
2.) Satellites are not available, however, line of sight is available
3.) You have 2-3 people available to collect data
4.) You have time to spend on more training (several sessions of 2-3 hours each)
5.) You can use data in ground coordinates (you don't need lat/long or UTM)
